Profile
I undertook a PhD in austerity and the political economy of the UK at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ, from 2017 to 2021. I joined the Department of Work, Employment, Management and Organisations at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ as a Lecturer in October 2022. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK.
Research
My PhD focused on the social and economic implications of the austerity programme implemented in the UK after 2010. Specifically, it centred on changes in public service provision, public-sector working practices, and the financial sustainability of service areas, including the NHS and the social care sector.
More recently, I have conducted research on institutional resilience and the different practices organisations use to address various challenges, including funding decline and increasing community needs. Here, I have been particularly interested in understanding who bears the costs and the benefits of these decisions – resilience of what and for whom? My latest research explores ‘resilience’ in the context of the food bank system in the City of Leicester.
My other research interests are in the areas of urban governance, policy & politics, and the precarity of the labour market.
I am the Research Lead of the Non-Profit Institutions Research Group at the School of Management, College of Business, Â鶹ÊÓƵ.
