Profile

I am a Sociologist by academic background and a qualitative researcher working within the broader area of health and care, with a specific focus on two key areas: 1) Health and care experiences of marginalised ageing and racialised populations, including marginalised populations living with dementia; and 2) Role of organisational cultures in the quality and safety of care provided to diverse patient populations. Within these broad foci, I am particularly interested in the inequities within health and care systems and organisations as these may be understood from the standpoint of those marginalised or disadvantaged within these systems. This includes an interest in the voices and experiences of both patients (or those who are in need of care) and those who provide care.

My current work includes my role as a post-doctoral researcher within the NIHR Greater Manchester Patient Safety Research Collaboration (GM PSRC), where I contribute to research that advances understanding of patient safety and organisational cultures in healthcare. My current research projects include: 1) Managing Patient Safety Risks at a System Level (MAPS-S): understanding an Integrated Care Board’s approach to system risk management (NIHR GM PSRC funded) 2) NEDs for Safety: examining the Non-Executive Director (NED) Maternity & Neonatal Safety Champion role (NIHR GM PSRC funded) 3) Generative AI in data analysis: assessing implications for ethical conduct, trust, recruitment and research inclusion (NIHR RSS funded).

Prior to my involvement in the work of the NIHR Greater Manchester Patient Safety Research Collaboration, my role at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ involved working in an NIHR-funded feasibility study examining the introduction of multi-component cardiovascular health screening within the NHS abdominal aortic aneurysm screening programmes in the UK. I have also previously held research positions at the University of Sheffield, University of Nottingham, University of Manchester and Brunel University London working in projects that looked at both the heath and care experiences of diverse ageing and racialised minority populations (including persons with dementia and older care home residents) and the experiences of health and social care workers providing care for these populations.
