The Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s reputation as a leading global institution for research and teaching has been confirmed with a rise in the QS World Rankings 2027.

Leicester rose 12 places to =314th in the global rankings, which are the most-consulted independent evaluation of the world’s top universities. This year, more than 8,800 institutions from 106 locations were evaluated, out of which only the top 1,504 were ranked.

The rankings also saw the University rise three places to 34th out of the 93 UK institutions included by QS.

This year’s edition featured expert opinions of more than 1.6 million academics and contributions from 600,000 employers. More than 21 million academic research papers were also examined to measure the impact of the research produced by each institution.

The QS World University Rankings also measure the institution’s sustainability, student employment outcomes, and student-to-academic-staff ratios.

Leicester moved up in four of the categories used to rank the world’s universities. The University made a significant leap of over 119 places in the Employer Reputation category, while rises were also recorded in Sustainability (up 32 places), Academic Reputation (up 21 places) and Employment Outcomes (up nine places).

Linda Ralphs, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ, said: “We are delighted to see our global and national reputation recognised by the latest QS World Rankings.

“The significant leap in Employer Reputation ranking, and the rise in Employment Outcomes, is particularly pleasing to see, as the University is completely focused on producing graduates equipped for the changing demands of the world of work.

“Just this month, we announced we will be providing full access to Microsoft 365 Copilot for all students, becoming one of the first UK universities to do so.

“As one of the first Microsoft Frontier universities, we are leading the sector by ensuring inclusive access to AI, equipping our students with the tools and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.”

She added: “This follows on from our ambitious plan to prepare every single one of our undergraduates for the world of work through our Work-Related Learning Guarantee initiative. This will see all campus-based, undergraduate students completing the whole of their programme at Leicester receive a guaranteed minimum 100 hours of employer-informed work-related learning as part of their studies.

“This means Leicester is among the first UK universities to offer a sector-wide guarantee of meaningful, structured, real-world learning for every student, regardless of background, discipline, or career goals.”

The QS rankings follow this month’s news that Leicester had maintained its position as a top 35 UK University, in the Complete University Guide 2027.
